Dear Momentum Customer,
As part of our ongoing efforts to protect our customers and the Momentum network from fraudulent calling activity, we will be expanding an existing fraud prevention control to the Alaska 907 area code, which has recently experienced elevated levels of domestic toll fraud. This change will not affect GCC High and Operator Connect customers due to other fraud control measures already in place on those platforms.
This control is an audio form of a CAPTCHA server developed for our call platform and has been successfully utilized for several years to help prevent international and offshore fraudulent calling activity. As an enhancement to our existing fraud prevention measures, we are now extending this protection to the affected Alaska area code.
How It Works
When a user places a call to a number within the affected area code, they may hear an automated verification prompt before the call is completed. The caller will be provided with a random three-digit code and asked to enter that code using their telephone keypad.
- Callers will have two opportunities to enter the correct code.
- Successfully entering the code will allow the call to proceed normally.
- Failure to enter the correct code will result in the call being terminated.
This audio verification process helps distinguish legitimate callers from automated dialing systems commonly used to generate fraudulent traffic.
Why We Are Making This Change
Fraudulent traffic continues to evolve and target specific geographic regions and numbering resources. By extending this proven audio verification technology to a high-risk area code, we can better protect:
- End users
- Customer phone systems
- The Momentum voice network
- Legitimate call completion
Service Impact
We do not expect any impact to normal voice services as part of this implementation. This change only affects calls placed to the designated Alaska area code and does not impact calls to other domestic destinations at this time. Existing fraud prevention controls currently protecting international and offshore calling destinations will remain in place.
If you experience any issues or have questions regarding this change, please contact Momentum Support.
Thank you for your continued partnership,
